Parliamentary E-Petition Opposing Canada’s Blasphemy Law

CFI Canada is proud to join Humanist Canada, BC Humanist Association, Canadian Journalists for Free Expression and a growing list of other organizations in launching Petition e-382 in opposition to Criminal Code Section 296 – Canada’s blasphemous libel law.

-For the first time, the provincial government has a picture of how young Quebec women become radicalized. The Quebec Council on the Status of Women presented the report Thursday afternoon at the National Assembly. It debunks some myths about radicalized women. The report is based on interviews with five radicalized women, and their friends and family. Researchers found the women are active participants, rather than being passive, naive or dependent on men.

An international research chair on radicalization of young people will be created in Quebec. International Relations Minister Christine St-Pierre announced the new research chair Monday morning at an international conference on the radicalization of young people in Quebec City. The new chair will have the backing of UNESCO and will bring together experts from the University of Sherbrooke and the University of Quebec in Montreal.

-A Quebec coroner is investigating the death of a 46-year-old Jehovah’s Witness who died Oct. 3 from complications shortly after giving birth by caesarian section in a Montreal hospital. The investigation is the second announced by the Quebec coroner’s office this month into the death of a Jehovah’s Witness following childbirth.

-A man who sexually assaulted young women between the ages of 12 and 24 after entering them into the cult he ran and leading them to believe he was a figure similar to ‘Christ’ has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for his actions.
