-LONDON, ONT.—A priest in London, Ont., has been charged with fraud in the alleged theft of more than $500,000 meant for refugees.

-ST. JOHN’S, N.L.—A man who tried to be the first person in Newfoundland and Labrador to receive a doctor-assisted death has passed away without the help of a doctor, according to his lawyer.

-A hotly-debated class of pesticides, which are toxic to bees, will no longer be allowed to be used in the City of Vancouver to improve the look of lawns ravaged by chafer beetles.

-One month ago on Tuesday, a gunman shot and killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. House Republicans plan to mark this milestone with a hearing on a bill that would enable widespread discrimination against LGBT people. The legislation, ironically named the “First Amendment Defense Act” (FADA) rests on the idea that discrimination should be excused when it is justified by religion.

-CLEVELAND — Republicans moved on Tuesday toward adopting a staunchly conservative platform that takes a strict, traditionalist view of the family and child rearing, bars military women from combat, describes coal as a “clean” energy source and declares pornography a “public health crisis.”
